Dosing and Administration
Phentermine comes in tablets and extended-release capsules. It usually is taken as a single dose in the morning. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor to explain any part you do not understand. Take phentermine exactly as directed.If you miss a dose
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember, although it is not recommended taking this medication 12 hours prior to bedtime due to possible sleep disturbances.Side effects
Generally, phentermine appears to be relatively well tolerated. It can produce side effects consistent with its catecholamine-releasing properties eg., tachycardia (increased heart rate) and elevated blood pressure, but the incidence and magnitude of these appear to be less than with the amphetamines. Possible side effects include: dryness of mouth, sleep disturbance, and mild tremors.Patients with the following should not use Phentermine:
- An allergy to any ingredient in Phentermine or other sympathomimetics (eg. pseudoephedrine)
- Are also taking sudafed ADD drugs, taking dexfenfluramine, fenfluramine, furazolidone, guanadrel, guanethidine,or have taken a monomine oxidise inhiditor (MAOI) (eg,phenelzine) in the last 14 days
- Have uncontrolled high blood pressure, an overactive thyroid, glaucoma, bipolar disorder
